Mytough 3G Instant Messenger problems *sigh*

So I have been rocking my MyTouch 3G phone for a couple weeks now - I also got the phone shipped with the newest 1.6 DONUT release of Android.

I was very very happy with the phone - besides the fact I am not a touch screen person, I constantly have my hands full and having a phone that is touch screen requires two hands (most of the time) typing with your thumb and 1 hand just sucks..

Overall great phone, great speed but then I hit a problem..........

I started to use AIM, YAHOO, GTALK etc and started noticing I kept getting disconnected from these regardless if I was using 1 or the other or all 3 at once... Like all tech guys I do what we all do when we run into a problem - GOOGLE IT!!!! and found very bad news.. I found out that a lot of other people with 1.6 also have this same exact problem - me being stubborn as I am I decided to call get with T-Mobile support and find a FIX... here is how our text conversation went...

^Lamoytha S: Hi Donald , welcome to T-Mobile live Chat. I’m ^Lamoytha and I will be happy to assist you. Please give me a moment to review your question.
^Lamoytha S: Hi Donald, how are you?
Donald Newton: ok
Donald Newton: frustrated with this phone :P
^Lamoytha S: That's great! I can certainly see how having to sign into your messenger every 5 minutes could be frustrating.
^Lamoytha S: That would drive me crazy.
Donald Newton: yea.. I dont know if this is some type of battery save feature of the phone... but I can not find a way around it.
^Lamoytha S: Okay Donald, I'm sure I can help.
^Lamoytha S: When did you get your Mytouch?
Donald Newton: ok
Donald Newton: about a week ago
^Lamoytha S: Oh okay. Congrats on the new phone! How is it working out for you?
^Lamoytha S: Beside the mesenger problem of course.
Donald Newton: everything else is working great so far, besides this and the fact that the phone wont sync my contacts / calender/ notes like a blackberry ;)
^Lamoytha S: Okay I'm glad you like it. I hear it's a awsome phone.
^Lamoytha S: Do you take it with you everywhere?
Donald Newton: yes
Donald Newton: I have eliminated the possibility of coverage and client software being the issue.. even sitting at work where I get good coverage it still disconnects also - i have tried using more then 1 chat software and it still does the same thing
Donald Newton: I found many many people also have this problem not just me.....
^Lamoytha S: Make sure you check out the myTouch patent leather case. It's really cool. I believe your phone is trying to save battery and memory. How many messengers are you using?
Donald Newton: even using 1 at a time it does it... the one that came with the phone that has the icon labeled "IM"
^Lamoytha S: Does it happen when your in the away status?
Donald Newton: no
Donald Newton: just when I am on Online status
Donald Newton: reguardless of messanger - it happens on Gtalk, Yahoo and AIM
Donald Newton: even if I make sure I have no other Tasks running.... i will be on AIM - i walk away come back 5 minutes later and I got signed off for no damn reason
^Lamoytha S: I'm sure your phone is automatically loggin you out to save memory and battery life. When you leave the messengers on your battery will die faster
Donald Newton: i dont care
Donald Newton: thats what i want to do
Donald Newton: thats like saying... Hey let me turn off my phone until i know someones gonna call then ill turn it on
^Lamoytha S: I understand.
Donald Newton: and there seems to be no way to disable this feature. which makes the phone useless to me
Donald Newton: i purchase the phone for means of communication and if I cannot communicate then all the other bells and whistles are worthless
^Lamoytha S: Do you realize it could cause other problems with your phone if you stay signed into your messengers.
Donald Newton: really because every single other phone on the market can
Donald Newton: blackberrys, sidekicks, windows mobile phones
Donald Newton: this is an android issue.. I am a technician and I need results not excuses
Donald Newton: i want a refund for this phone and credit if its not going to function like it should
^Lamoytha S: You are still in your buyers remorse period so you can return it.
^Lamoytha S: All those device have had issue because of running application.
^Lamoytha S: You have a very advanced phone.
Donald Newton: its so advanced it cannot perform basic features? that makes sense
Donald Newton: my refrigerator at home is advanced but i still can keep my food cold
^Lamoytha S: It makes good sense. Because of the technology the phone must be maintained in the proper way.
Donald Newton: that makes no sense can I please speak to a supervisor... I asked for support to get answers so far your just tell me what I already know - the phone does not WORK
Donald Newton: I don't want excuses on why it is NOT working - I want an answer a SOLUTION.
Donald Newton: android support or something - dont you guys have a special team.
Donald Newton: like the DANGER team for sidekicks
^Lamoytha S: One moment.

^Lamoytha S: Okay.
Donald Newton: sorry I had to draw something while i was waiting forever
^Lamoytha S: You can certainly call in.
^Lamoytha S: Just dial 611 from your handset.
Donald Newton: what is the advantage of calling in?
Donald Newton: why can't i get help here
Donald Newton: are you saying I'm wasting my time?
^Lamoytha S: I'm trying to help.
^Lamoytha S: I already told you why your phone is loggin you out.
Donald Newton: I already know why
Donald Newton: I didn't come here to know why
^Lamoytha S: And I also told you that you can return your phone.
Donald Newton: I came here for a resolution
Donald Newton: ok send me a box with prepaid shipping
Donald Newton: I refuse to believe a 400$ phone cannot do something so simple as messengers
Donald Newton: why don't you guys advertise that?? our phone is so great and advanced but it cannot do basic things like AIM that every other phone can do
^Lamoytha S: Before you purchase a phone you should reseach it on your own. It is your money.
Donald Newton: maybe you should list that on your website
Donald Newton: I did research it on your site and nowhere does it say that
^Lamoytha S: You can also check the forums.
Donald Newton: I think you guys need to check the forums
Donald Newton: so you can have a response to the 140000 people complaining about this phone
^Lamoytha S: If you do not like it return it.
^Lamoytha S: You have 14 days.
^Lamoytha S: After that you are stuck with it.
^Lamoytha S: Is this the only problem you are having?
^Lamoytha S: The phone signs you out to save battery and memory.
Donald Newton: why is there not an option to change this feature
Donald Newton: its my phone correct? why do you decide on what it does
Donald Newton: i pay for it now you
Donald Newton: not**
^Lamoytha S: Does it sign you in automatically?
Donald Newton: no
Donald Newton: it has to be clicked again
^Lamoytha S: Follow these steps. From the Home screen, touch the Applications button.
Touch the IM icon.
Touch AIM or.
Touch the Screen Name field to display the on-screen keyboard.
Enter your screen name.
Touch the Password field.
Enter your password.
If desired, touch Remember my password and Sign me in automatically.
Touch Sign in.
Donald Newton: I don't what is more pathetic - the fact that the phone does this or the fact that you get paid to sit here and BS people like this...
Donald Newton: bye

As you can see I had no luck - so I decide to call and talk to a true android specialist from the Android TMOBILE team... Basically he confirmed the same exact things and expressed his "so called" concern for my issue however - he said indeed the phone has been designed this way in the 1.6 update because users kept complaining about battery life.... HEY GENIUS MR PROGRAM GUYS - how about just adding 1 button like "prevent phone from disconnecting" ..... but that would make sense right?? so lets not do that.. lets just screw over 10000000000's of people who like to stay signed on to AIM, YAHOO and MSN, GOOGLE TALK.....

That's like me turning my phone OFF and only turning it on when I am expecting a call? Yea you can NEVER reach me - BUT HEY I'M GETTING GOOD BATTERY LIFE AM-I-RIGHT?

Seriously get with the fucking program... I am not one to rant and shit but that is pretty ridiculous a state of the art 400$ phone cannot perform something so simple as that...

anyways..

I had to find a solution since they couldn't provide me with one.... the solution - take advantage of my 30 day buyers remorse that lets me trade in my phone no questions asked.. which I did - and purchased a new Motorola CLIQ phone - I won't get the phone till friday but I was told it is running android 1.5 with a custom GUI so I wont face those problems that mytouch had.. Plus I can use a keyboard YAY!

I'll keep you posted but this CLIQ does seem bad ass.. I was told it doesnt come out till November but I'm getting one friday :)

Check out this video for the Cliq

Lost IOS on Cisco switch or router - fix it now!!!

So you lost your IOS on the switch - and you cant really use TFTP as an option because your switch doesn't have an IP addresses... Well my friends looks like your going XMODEM!!! Yes with hyper terminal you can transfer it over console cable with XMODEM..

3 Things you will need...

1) Console Cable - Easy enough to get.

2) Hyper terminal - this was a pain in the ass for me to get because I have windows vista... I ended up using my Server which had Server 2003 and still had hyper terminal..

3) Switch/Router Firmware - you can download this from Cisco.com with any Cisco account for free.

How to restore IOS with Xmodem

1) You need to use Hyper Terminal.

So connect a windows XP or Server 2003 console cable to the switch.

2) PREP Work
Download the IOS you need for your switch from Cisco.com
type the following commands

If your switch is screwed up which it most likely is or you wouldnt be needing to Xmodem your IOS over....

You should be seeing the "Switch:" prompt which runs when the hardware can not find an valid image.

Type the following:
switch: flash_init
switch: load_helper

3) Copy the config you downloaded to the switch with Xmodem
Type

switch: copy xmodem: flash:NAMEOFYOURIOSFILE.bin

YOU MUST TYPE THE COMMAND 100% CORRECTLY ABOVE
if you get "Permission denied" or "closed by remote" you typed the command wrong - even having a space in the wrong spot will cause it to fail.

Once you type this command you will see
Begin the Xmodem transfer now
CCC

This is your prompt to use hyper terminal !
CLICK TRANSFER from the menu uptop in hyper terminal
CLICK SEND FILE

Browser to your IOS image - MAKE SURE Protocol is set to XMODEM

If you followed the directions correctly the file will start transfering now !!!

Sit back and wait 30Minutes to 2HOURS depending on the IOS size.

Good times... Good times... ;) haha

Dead weight...

I feel good.. i feel DAMN good... But there's a problem... A problem I can’t ignore... I always told myself I wouldn't do what my dad did to

me when I was growing up, I promised if I had a kid - a son - I would be there for him while he grew up no matter what the cost... and I

have tried I have tried my damn best but where do I draw the line, when is enough enough... I'm tired of the fighting... I'm tired of the

Immaturity level she has - so damn tired... I work too damn hard every day not to be happy, I think I deserve to be happy.. People look at

me sometimes and think I have everything.. my friend told me he wishes he had things like me but what is all of my material bullshit

worth if there’s no love in my life... I honestly can’t even remember what it's like to be -in-love- it's been many many years since I felt that

and I forgot what it’s like... I want to be in love again, none of this matters when I'm not even happy...

Am I making excuses?? Am I trying to make shit up so I won’t feel guilty for giving up on my son?? I’m not giving up on my son… I gave

up on his mother- she’s never going to change, I hoped maybe because she was young she would grow out of it and become more

Responsible and be an adult - i was wrong.... so damn wrong...

I love my son – every time i look at him he brings a smile to my face hes gorgeous and I know shes going to keep him from me... but I

can’t keep living like this... something’s got to change I can’t stay with this chick she’s driving me fucking nuts and I just want to be

Happy..

I'm sorry son - hopefully when your older you will understand... but I can’t stay with this girl anymore - it’s time for me to move on... I'm

Moving on... fuck that!

Cisco Catalyst Switch Password Recovery

Hi again Folks.... Well there are too many reasons you might need to gain access to a Cisco Switch - some are legal and some are not... Well lets just say your old network administrator got fired and he aint coughing up the passwords or maybe you were screwing around with a Switch and setup the passwords in the wrong or created the username and password wrong and you saved the configuration and your now locked out? (this happens to us all)..... NOT!!!!

Anyways..... There is two ways to do this... 1 just flash/destroy the config and spend HOURS reconfiguring the switch.... or there is the Correct way... Backup the config - Wipe it, Reload it and setup a new password (correctly this time). I say we go with option number 2? I thought you would agree!! Here's how its done...

*NOTE: This is slightly different depending on the model of the switch - for this demo we are using a Cisco 3560"

1) Getting back inside the switch......
First thing is first, We need to get back inside the switch do be able to do SOMETHING at all.

a) Pull the power Cable out of the switch so it is turned OFF..... Attach a console cable to the switch and open your terminal software like Hyperterminal or PuTTY, Use the following settings to connect to the switch;
  • Bits per second (baud): 9600

  • Data bits: 8

  • Parity: None

  • Stop bits: 1

  • Flow Control: Xon/Xoff

b) Hold the button on the front of switch, This part is easy to do since most cisco switches have only 1 button in the front anyways there should be no confusion... While holding the button plug the power cable back in which will turn the switch on...

c)
Release the button after approximately 15 seconds when the SYST LED turns solid green located on the front of the switch. When you release the Mode button, the SYST LED should blink green... You will know if it worked or not because you will get a Switch: Prompt on your Telnet/PuTTY/Hyperterm Window

2) Backing up the Configuration of the Switch
OK, so now we are back inside the switch but we are in a very very basic mode...We will need to load a couple of things inside the switch then we can backup our configuration...

a) Enter the Command below as shown; This will initialize some basic features
switch: flash_init

b) Enter the next command shown below; This will load another key feature.

switch: load_helper

c) Enter yet another command; This will show you the files saved on your switch - we are looking at the files so we can find your config file and rename it.
(ENTER EXACTLY AS SHOWN w/ the COLEN)
switch: dir flash:

d) Now you should see a file most likely called
config.text we need to rename this file so it will be safe and we can write a new blank config without losing our current configuration
(TYPE EXACTLY AS SHOWN; IF THIS DOES NOT WORK TRY AGAIN YOU PROBABLY TYPED IT WRONG)

Type switch: rename flash:config.text flash:config.old

e) Now BOOT up the switch in normal mode by typing:

switch: boot

3) Restoring the configuration and setting up a password (ALMOST DONE!)

Now you will see a few prompts offering to do a setup wizard for your brand new switch - this is normal since we renamed the configuration file the switcth created a blank clean new configuration.. Deny the wizards and prompts and get yourself back to the good'ol SWITCH: prompt.

a) Get back into "Enable Mode"
Type switch: enable
now your prompt should like like switch# instead of switch:

b) Time to restore the configuration we backed up;
Type Switch# rename flash:config.old flash:config.text
PRESS ENTER if you are prompted with "Destination filename [config.text]"

c) Great lets save it!
Type Switch# wr
"WR" will write the configuration and save what you just did...

d) OK after all that hard work we finally are back inside our switch and the configuration is restored..... Now you need to setup a user name and password... Go ahead and do this... if your not sure how to do this;

Type Switch# conf t
Type Switch(config)# username admin privilege 15 secret 5 yournewpassword

Explained: username Your User name follows
Privilege you want this to be 15 so you have FULL admin rights.
secret 5 yournewpassword - this will ensure your password is Encrypted.

e) Now reboot and your done!
Type Switch(config#) end
Type Switch# reload
Type ENTER TO CONFIRM

BOOOOOYA!!!!

Hope this helps.... You can now login to the switch with your username and password you put in!

Enjoy.
