Cisco DHCP Relay "IP Helper Address"

So today we wanted to move some servers over to a different switch... We went inside the switch, assigned the proper configurations to the ports and also assigned to our SERVER VLAN but for some reason when we plugged into these ports we were not getting ANY IP address from DHCP..

We double checked our DHCP scope, server and subnet. Everything was setup properly.. We already have other servers on this VLAN without any problems and other ports on this same switch using different VLANS are getting DHCP without any problems...

So it came to my attention the DHCP was not "RELAYING"

To do this you have to setup an ip-helper address like this:

1) log into switch via telnet
2) enable to get privliges
3) switch# conf t
4) switch(conf)# interface vlan 123
5) switch(if-conf)# ip helper-address 192.168.1.2

Here is the break down on what we just did..

1) Get on to your switch by telneting into it via IP address

2) You need to gain privleged acccess to get to configure the terminal

3) this command will get you in to the configuration mode

4) this will get you into the configuration of the VLAN - the default vlan is 1 normally

5) this command "ip helper-address" tells your switch where to find the DHCP server...

Hope this helps :)

Outlook 2007 running slow

Is your outlook 2007 running slow?? Did you upgrade to find that speed only decreased instead running better... I had this problem myself, It had nothing to do with VISTA or Outlook 2007 in general.. It was the ADD-INS inside outlook 2007...

If you have any of these symptoms you should try this for yourself.

Outlook starting up slow
Outlook starts "Not Responding"
You get pauses when going from email to email
Over all functions of OUTLOOK perform slow

1) open outlook
2) go to tools > trust center
3) go to Add-ins
4) on COM Add-ins > Click GO - When the new window appears Un-Check the Add-ins
5) on Exchange Client > Click GO - When the new window appears Un-Check the Add-ins
6) You can remove 1 add-in at a time and check if the performance improves. That way you can figure out exactly which add-in it is that is slowing down OUTLOOK... OR You can just Disable them ALL first, then just enable the ones you know and need...

I un-checked all the add-ins and my OUTLOOK Flys now with no slow down or no pauses at all what so EVER...

For me there was an old Virus Scanner I removed a long time ago, However... It kept an Add-in installed inside outlook even after I un-installed that software a long time ago...

Hope this helps people and hope they read this first because when I tried to Google this problem originally I found tons of posts about editing the registry, Hot fixes from microsoft, updates and patches, uninstalling and reinstalling outlook, running the repair, You get the point... And it turned out to be a simple 1minute fix of removing the add-ins...

Radianta solutions for CUAE

So last night me, the IT Director, CAO and Hospital IT manager met with the folks from RADIANTA. I have to say I was pretty impressed. These guys are partnered with CISCO to provide some great solutions and enable the CISCO VoIP phones to do some neat tricks they should have been able to do from the start, Such as Paging, Call Back and Notification, Call Recording and even Time Card features!

We had a small demo on the suite containing all these core features, it is called "Beacon Office". Now that Radianta are CISCO partners Cisco will be selling this product now directly and tossing a cut to Radianta for development.

Another great thing about this is since they have a true partnership Cisco TAC will actually support this CUAE as if it was their own.

People were waiting for a long time for CISCO to make use of it's Cisco Unified Application Environment but the wait was just too long and Radianta stepped up to supply this solution that worked so great CISCO thought why invent the wheel when these guys are already rolling?!

Since we already have and use Call Manager this software will work and intergrate with everything we have currently without the purchase of anything additional since we already have the setup.

We are going to implement and install this at our hospital very soon I can't wait to get started and I will keep you posted on all the details !!!
